Thomas A. Caito

Thomas A. “Tommy” Caito, 86, of Indianapolis passed away Wednesday, November 21, 2018 in Indianapolis. Born August 13, 1932 in Indianapolis to Sicilian immigrants, August and Mary Ann (Mercurio) Caito; his parents preceded him in death. He was united in marriage to Kathy S. (Ellis) Caito whom also preceded him in death.

Tommy was a faithful member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church and St. Matthew Catholic Church, a member of the Knights of Columbus and the American Legion.

Tommy grew up in the old Italian section of Indianapolis, was a graduate of Sacred Heart High School, and was active in the Caito & Mascari Produce family business. He proudly served his country in the United States Army in the Korean War. Tommy was the owner of John’s Famous Stew on Kentucky Avenue in Indianapolis.

Tommy is also preceded in death by his brothers, Philip J. Caito, John B. Caito, Joseph A. Caito and sisters, Mag Mascari and Ida Rose Meyer.

Survivors include his daughter, Mary Ann Caito of Indianapolis; his step children, Robert L. (Katie) Breeden of Noblesville and Shelly Breeden of Indianapolis; his brother, Gus F. Caito of Indianapolis; his sister, Frances M. Navarra of Carmel; five step-grandchildren, Katelynn and Abbigale Jefferson and Maddie, Emma, and Robert A. Breeden; and all of his loyal staff, whom he considered to be a part of family.

Family and friends will gather to celebrate the life of Tommy Caito from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 27, 2018 in the Daniel F. O’Riley Funeral Home, 6107 S. East Street, Indianapolis with a recitation of the Rosary at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home. Morning prayers will begin at 9:15 a.m. on Wednesday, November 28, 2018 also at the funeral home, followed by 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 520 Stevens Street, Indianapolis. Entombment will follow at Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to The Little Sisters of the Poor; envelopes will be provided at the funeral home.
