Karen S. Duncan

Karen Weilhammer Duncan, 63, Indianapolis, passed away peacefully at home September 16, 2018. Karen was born June 8, 1955, in Indianapolis, to the late Thomas and Albina (Guiliana) Weilhammer.

She graduated from Southport High School in 1973. Karen worked for 17 years for Indiana Bell. For the last 25 years, she was employed with McFarland Family Medicine at St. Francis Medical Group. An incredible animal lover and activist, Karen was a member of the Indiana Animal Rights Alliance (IARA) and People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA). She was also an accomplished artist and also enjoyed staying healthy through daily walking and exercise. Karen was a longtime member of St. Mark Catholic Church. A loving wife, identical twin, sister, mother, aunt, and friend, Karen’s memory will be cherished by her loving family and many friends.

Survivors include her husband, Keith Duncan, to whom she was united in marriage April 28, 1979; daughters, Denise (Pat) Rooney and Jennifer (Devon) McGillem; twin-sister, Kathy (Daniel) Clements; brother, Mark (Lee Ann) Weilhammer; grandchildren, Jack, Charlie, Henry, Finn, Scarlett, and Juliet; nephew, Jake Weilhammer; nieces, Kim Ziegler, Dana Althaus, and Amy Weilhammer; her Scottish Terrier, Gloria and her beloved Schnauzer, Penny Marie.

The Duncan family would like to extend a special thank you for the care provided to Karen at the Mayo Clinic by Dr. Ian Parney and Samantha Balakrishnan, Nurse Practitioner; and IU Health staff Dr. Edward Dropcho and Drew Geiser, Registered Nurse. The Duncan family would also like to thank Father Bill Marks of St. Mark Catholic Church for his care and guidance through this difficult time.

According to Karen’s wishes, public services will not be observed. Karen’s family will be celebrating her life privately. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a contribution to the Southside Animal Shelter or to Uplands Peak Sanctuary.
